Acharacle is the village at the western end of Loch Shiel, where the loch meets the river. The village lines the road for about one mile until the Shiel Bridge itself. There is a shop, post office, accommodation, places to eat, primary school, village hall, church and probably other facilities I've missed out.

The church itself is one that is built from a Thomas Telford design and sits up on a slope at the west end of the village.
