Your wedding ….
is possibly the most important event in your life. The Church of Scotland believes that marriage is a gift of God, and to make your vows ‘in the sight of God’ is a great blessing in itself as you share the day with your family and friends. The service will be built around your choices of vows, there are various vows available, have readings and music of your choice. It's all very personal and tailored to suit you as much as possible.
In Scotland, the celebrant is licences to officiate at weddings - this means your wedding can take place anywhere. Here, for example, there have been weddings at the top of the lighthouse, under trees, and on the beach ( once tide times have been checked! ).
Please make contact as soon as you can – see the contact page of the web-site.
It is advisable to confirm the date with the minister as soon as possible. Please do so at the same time as confirming the venue of the reception.
They will advise you on what further steps you need to take in regard to an organist, flowers in church, etc, and contacting the Registrar (who has to give the legal authorization for the marriage to take place).
Fees / charges, no! Donations, yes.
There is no formal fee charged for the services of the minister in a parish church in Scotland, but a donation would be welcome.
If you are thinking of holding your wedding at Acharacle Parish Church, you will be aware that it is expensive to maintain and run a church building; heating, lighting, insurance, essential repairs and keeping everything in good order amount to huge sums year after year. We would welcome your support of the church as it continues to offer spiritual support for all and would suggest that you consider a minimum donation of £100 towards this.
We hope that you will regard this as being in the nature of a thanks-offering on your special day.
Love bears all things,
Believes all things,
Hopes all things,
Endures all things.
